Specifications for Netlon TurfGuard

New Construction

  1. The ground surface should be reasonably level and cleared of debris before laying the mesh. Local depressions should be infilled with a mixture of sharp sand and topsoil.

  2. Prepare the surface as a cultivated but firmed seedbed.

  3. Unroll and lay out flat over the prepared surface. Fix one end with steel pins or 280mm TurfGuard Pegs, depending on ground conditions. Pull the roll taut and pin the opposite ends.

  4. Adjacent rolls should be overlapped by 200mm.

  5. Secure the overlaps and all external edges with staples or pegs at 1.5m centers and locally if any depressions are evident.

  6. Brush a dressing of good quality, sandy topsoil or sharp sand over the entire area to just cover the mesh ribs and fill the apertures. This will promote early root growth around the mesh and increase stability.

  7. Apply a suitable grass seed dressing over areas previously bare of grass or which have received more than a 25mm covering of sand and topsoil.

  8. Traffic and pedestrians should be kept off the treated area until the grass sward has become fully established and has been mowed at least twice with the blades set high (25 to 35mm). Consequently, the installation is best carried out during the growing season to allow a strong interlock connection between the mesh and the sward.

The area may be rolled and treated with turf maintenance products such as fertilizers, as required.

Existing Grassed Areas

  1. Cut the existing grass as short as possible. Fill local depressions with a mixture of sharp sand and topsoil and firm the surface.

  2. Continue with points 3 to 8 above.
